Holy cannoli! Can't believe this place is still around!
When my wife was living overseas we stayed in Rome for a mini vacay. We explored that city all over! When we stopped at the Pyramide station we were starving and found this spot. Had a wonderful experience, along with a great meal! This was almost 10yrs ago, if I can find those CDs with pics of that vacay I'll upload the food we had there. Great stuff! -

I ended up here while wandering around Testaccio after I couldn't get a table at Felice a Testaccio (which, a week later, served me the best meal of my life). It was my first evening in Italy. In reality I chose Novecento for silly reasons - it was near Felice, it was clearly busy but still had visible open tables, the menu displayed outside was entirely in Italian, and I didn't see many obvious Americans inside. I ended up very happy with my choice.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was surprised to see how large it was - from the outside you can only see the small front room, but it actually opens up to quite a large additional room in the back. The place was nearly to capacity with what seemed like almost an entirely local crowd - most parties were drinking beer and eating pizza. The servers spoke broken English, I spoke very broken Italian, but somehow this was more than enough.
I ordered a glass of the house red wine, which was very nice. For a starter I had the "spiedino di provola e pancetta" (skewer-grilled provolone and pancetta) - very tasty. Then I decided on pasta for my main course and chose the "paccheri di Gragnano con melanzane, ricotta di bufala, ricotta glassata e pomodorini glassati." To be honest, I pretty much decided on this dish because I recognized two types of cheese, plus tomatoes, all of which sounded delicious - and it really was. The eggplant (which I didn't realize was an ingredient when I ordered it) was perfectly tender and not the least bit bitter, perhaps the best eggplant I've ever had. The grape tomatoes were prepared in a way I'd never had them before - somehow caramelized and very shiny in appearance. Powerfully flavorful. Then for dessert, a simple espresso. See my uploaded photos for all the above dishes.
Overall a lovely experience and recommended if you are in the neighborhood - not sure it is really a destination, especially considering all the competition in Rome - but if you are staying in the area for a few days I would certainly check it out. -

so our first night in Rome we wandered outside our hotel and saw this place. the menu looked good so in we went. food was good! the fresh mozzarella was probably my favorite the whole trip. I also loved my raviolis. the only bad thing when I wanted a bottle of my favorite wine they didn't have it and gave us something supposedly similar. it was not similar at all, it wasn't even white! it was some red wine and I hate red wine. I drank it anyway but my first night I had to drink wine I didn't really like. my fiance loved the wine but of course most men like red wine.

The food was incredible as was the atmosphere and service. Giro, our server couldn't have been any sweeter. Everything is made fresh to order including the pasta. They have incredible wines including Barbera D'Alba. If you have a chance to eat here you will tell everyone after you experience it.
